delete mysql data in modal

In this tutorial, we will create a Delete MySQLi Data In Modal using PHP. This code can delete MySQLi data when the user clicks the delete button. The system uses a Bootstrap modal to launch a prompt message that needs confirmation to delete MySQLi data using the DELETE query. This a user-friendly program. Feel free to modify and use it for your system.

We will be using PHP as a scripting language and interpreter, mainly used on any web server, including xamp, wamp, etc. It is being used to any reputable websites because of the modern approach as its today.

Getting Started:

First, you have to download & install XAMPP or any local server that runs PHP scripts. Here’s the link for the XAMPP server https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html.

And, this is the link for the bootstrap that I used for the layout design https://getbootstrap.com/.

Creating Database

Open your database web server then create a database name in it db_delete_modal; after that, click Import, then locate the database file inside the folder of the application then click ok.

delete mysqli data using modal

Creating the database connection

Open your any kind of text editor(notepad++, etc..). Then just copy/paste the code below then name it conn.php.

<?php
    $conn = mysqli_connect('localhost', 'root', '', 'db_delete_modal') or die(mysqli_error());
    if(!$conn){
        die("Error: Failed to connect to database");
    }
?>

Creating The Interface

This is where we will create a simple form for our application. To create the forms simply copy and write it into your text editor, then save it as index.php.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
    <head>
        <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
        <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
    </head>
<body>
    <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
        <div class="container-fluid">
            <a class="navbar-brand" href="https://sourcecodester.com">Sourcecodester</a>
        </div>
    </nav>
    <div class="col-md-3"></div>
    <div class="col-md-6 well">
        <h3 class="text-primary">PHP - Delete MySQLi Data In Modal</h3>
        <hr style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"/>
        <div class="col-md-4">
            <form method="POST" action="insert.php">
                <div class="form-group">
                    <label>Firstname</label>
                    <input type="text" name="firstname" class="form-control" required="required"/>
                </div>
                <div class="form-group">
                    <label>Lastname</label>
                    <input type="text" name="lastname" class="form-control" required="required" />
                </div>
                <div class="form-group">
                    <label>Address</label>
                    <input type="text" name="address" class="form-control" required="required"/>
                </div>
                <center><button name="Insert" class="btn btn-primary">Insert</button></center>
            </form>
        </div>
        <div class="col-md-8">
            <table class="table table-bordered">
                <thead class="alert-info">
                    <tr>
                        <th>Firstname</th>
                        <th>Lastname</th>
                        <th>Address</th>
                        <th>Action</th>
                    </tr>
                </thead>
                <tbody>
                    <?php
                        require 'conn.php';
                        $count=0;
                        $query = mysqli_query($conn, "SELECT * FROM `member` ORDER BY `lastname` ASC") or die(mysqli_error());
                        while($fetch = mysqli_fetch_array($query)){
                        $count++;
                    ?>
                    <tr class="del_mem<?php echo $fetch['mem_id']?>">
                        <td><?php echo $fetch['firstname']?></td>
                        <td><?php echo $fetch['lastname']?></td>
                        <td><?php echo $fetch['address']?></td>
                        <td><button type="button" class="btn btn-danger" data-target="#modal_delete<?php echo $count?>" data-toggle="modal"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-trash"></span> Delete</button>
            </td>
                    </tr>

                    <div class="modal fade" id="modal_delete<?php echo $count?>" aria-hidden="true">
                        <div class="modal-dialog modal-dialog-centered">
                            <div class="modal-content">
                                <div class="modal-header">
                                    <h3 class="modal-title">System</h3>
                                </div>
                                <div class="modal-body">
                                    <center><h4>Are you sure you want to delete this row?</h4></center>
                                </div>
                                <div class="modal-footer">
                                    <button type="button" class="btn btn-primary" data-dismiss="modal">No</button>
                                    <a type="button" class="btn btn-danger" href="delete.php?mem_id=<?php echo $fetch['mem_id']?>">Yes</a>
                                </div>
                            </div>
                        </div>
                    </div>
                    <?php
                        }
                    ?>
                </tbody>
            </table>
        </div>
    </div>
<script src="js/jquery-3.2.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="js/bootstrap.js"></script>
</body>

Creating PHP Query

This code contains the php query of the application. This code will save the data inputs to the MySQLi database server. To do that just copy and write this block of codes inside the text editor, then save it as insert.php.

<?php
    require_once 'conn.php';

    $firstname = $_POST['firstname'];
    $lastname = $_POST['lastname'];
    $address = $_POST['address'];

    mysqli_query($conn, "INSERT INTO `member` VALUES('', '$firstname', '$lastname', '$address')") or die(mysqli_error());

    header("location: index.php");
?>

Creating the Main Function

This code contains the main function of the application. This code will delete a MySQLi data when the button is clicked. To make this just copy and write these block of codes below inside the text editor, then save it as delete.php

<?php
    require_once 'conn.php';

    if(ISSET($_REQUEST['mem_id'])){
        $id=$_REQUEST['mem_id'];
        mysqli_query($conn, "DELETE FROM `member` WHERE `mem_id`='$id'") or die(mysqli_error());
        header("location:index.php");
    }
?>
